✨ About The Role
- The Senior Staff Engineer will provide technical leadership across all squads within the Financial Crime collective at Monzo.
- They will partner with the Engineering Director and work with the product leadership team to ensure appropriate trade-offs are made.
- The role involves understanding multiple work-streams and providing technical advice to other engineers regularly.
- The candidate will lead architectural discussions for complex systems to arrive at robust and optimal solutions.
- They will foster a culture of quality within the collective and proactively mentor and sponsor engineers.
- The position requires preparing the team to respond to adversarial attacks and occasionally leading efforts to nullify such attacks.
- The engineer will work with various tools and technologies, including Go, Cassandra, Kafka, Kubernetes, Docker, AWS, and GCP.

- The ideal candidate has a track record of technical excellence and has delivered resilient systems, particularly in consumer products.
- They should have experience in technically leading large teams to solve complex product challenges while managing trade-offs effectively.
- A background in Backend Systems, Data-intensive systems, or real-world ML deployments is essential for success in this role.
- Experience in Financial Crime, Security, Fraud, Trust & Safety, or Integrity is highly desirable.
- The candidate should possess a quantitative mindset, focusing on outcomes and making data-informed decisions.
- Comfort in dealing with ambiguity and helping teams resolve such challenges is crucial for this position.
