About the job
You would become part of a team responsible for building and further developing a data platform, which is the one of the most important services within Twilio, making sure the necessary data gets stored and made available for functions helping to improve Twilio core services even further. You would have the opportunity to work across several development teams in Twilio, build services at scale by using the latest and greatest technologies available. We have lots of data and we want to make sure that we as a company can use it by making our services better, so that the end customers would have a better user experience and Twilio as a company could grow.
Responsibilities
In this role, you’ll:
- Contribute to designing, building and configuring of Services, Platforms and Tools
- Work with the Product Management on defining the requirements
- Participate in the backlog grooming and estimation processes
- Contribute to the solution design (propose, challenge) and feature ideas and betterments
- Automate manual processes and develop tools to reduce repetitive work
- Write unit, integration, cluster and end-to-end tests to achieve high levels of code coverage and detect defects early
- Deploy code to the cloud; maintain operational excellence through Runbooks & Metrics
- Break down large epics, lead grooming and work to ensure larger goals are delivered on time
- Mentor junior engineers
Qualifications

Required:
- Experience with cloud services (AWS preferred, Google, Azure etc.)
- 4-8+ years of experience with building, maintaining and scaling backend services in Java.
- Experience with AWS DynamoDB, ElasticSearch or Kafka.
- On-hands experience with Big Data Processing Tools and Frameworks such as Apache Spark, PySpark, SparkSQL.
- Prior exposure to service-oriented architectures, microservices and REST APIs.
- Experience with designing and operating reliable, scalable systems.
- Readiness to participate in the on-call rotation.
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering or a related field, or equivalent training, fellowship, or work experience.
- Strong Soft Skills: be prepared to frequently propose and discuss ideas and implementation with your teammates, as well as involving other stakeholders in Twilio - we’re one single team, no one flies solo!
- Curious mindset - no-one knows all the answers, but you should be able to find them and grow with us.
Desired:
- Experience in development of large scale services
- Experience in working with technical and non-technical stakeholders
- Ability to communicate highly technical concepts in an easy and understandable way
Location
This role will be based in our Tallinn, Estonia office or remotely in Estonia, based on your preference.
